My name is Fred Bouwman. I am a Canadian citizen. On August 2nd, 2010 I flew to Dublin, Ireland to start a bike trip that will take me through Western Europe, Morocco, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, China, India, Nepal and SE Asia ending in Singapore. From there I will fly to the Philippines and work for 6 months in an orphanage located in Tacloban City.
The Journal section of this site will contain regular postings and pictures. I have started posting there and will continue writing about my preparation and provide regular updates as the trip progresses. I hope to write about interesting things that happen and provide pictures that give an insight into the people and places I visit. I will also write frequently about what I am thinking about as I travel.
The Orphanage section will be updated once I arrive in the Philippines. I will post pictures and videos of the kids I work with.
The Contact tab contains my personal e-mail where I can be reached at anytime. I will have a laptop with me and will be corresponding via e-mail so feel free to drop me a message; it will be my way of keeping in touch with family and friends. I will read and respond to every message sent but may be out of internet range for extended periods of time.
